Vinegar FAQs
Do you produce your own vinegar?
Absolutely. We ferment, age, and bottle all of our vinegar in our vinegar works in Massachusetts.
We know that even having to ask the question may strike some of you as crazy. But the modern food world can be a bit crazy. It is common practice for food companies to just be recipe and marketing companies. They come up with a recipe-- and sometimes not even a recipe—and then they go to larger centralized manufacturers called “co-packers” that actually make and bottle the products for them. As you can imagine this means foods are increasingly standardized and the “innovations” come in the form of marketing buzz and jazz hands instead of in the form of better foods.
As you might be able to tell this really bums us out both because it is misleading to consumers and because it leads to a bland standardization of our foods.
Mother always told us to “ Fight the vinegar industrial complex!” and we hope you will too.
Should I give vinegar as a gift?
Absolutely! An artisan vinegar gift set is a thoughtful and appreciated choice for a variety of occasions where culinary excellence is valued. Ideal for gourmet enthusiasts and home cooks, it makes a perfect present for housewarming parties, where it adds a touch of sophistication to a new kitchen. It’s also a delightful gift for food lovers during holidays or birthdays, offering a unique twist on traditional presents.
Additionally, an artisan vinegar set can be a charming gesture at weddings or anniversaries, celebrating the couple’s taste for fine, artisanal products. Whether it’s for a chef, a friend with a passion for cooking, or a host, this gift set enhances any occasion with its blend of elegance and flavor.
How should I use vinegar?
Just about everywhere other than breakfast cereal. Really.
Everyone knows that vinegars are essential for vinaigrettes, oil and vinegar salad dressings. But, with a little experimentation, you will see that acid is what was missing from many of your dishes.
You can marinate meats using vinegar, brighten up sauces, season roasted vegetables, make cocktails, even bake with it (google vinegar pie).
The key is to use vinegar sparingly and to adjust flavors slowly by tossing in just a dash or two at a time.
How can I use vinegar in cocktails?
We're glad you asked!
When we incorporate artisan vinegar into cocktails, we’re elevating the drink with a layer of complexity and depth that simple mixers can't match. Our vinegars, with their nuanced flavors and balanced acidity, add a unique twist that enhances both classic and contemporary cocktails. Whether it's the bright tang of a citrus-infused vinegar or the rich, complex notes of a barrel-aged variety, we use these artisanal ingredients to create a harmonious balance between sweetness, acidity, and flavor. This infusion not only brightens up the drink but also complements and contrasts with other ingredients, making each cocktail more dynamic and memorable.
By choosing our artisan vinegar, you bring a touch of sophistication and creativity to the cocktail experience, transforming an ordinary drink into an extraordinary one.

A dear friend brought back some Rose' vinegar as a gift to me, from Italy. It was wonderful and I was looking on line for something like it. That is when I stumbled across American Vinegar Works, and so I ordered two bottles. It more than met my expectations. Now I need to order the sampler pack and try them all.
I write here about apple cider vinegar, but I've been using many of the vinegars from American Vinegar Works, and honestly love all of them.
The apple cider vinegar is the best I've had--the taste is mellow, and rich.
Thank you for the excellent products.
I wanted to start purchasing from small businesses and found AVW with a little research. Absolutely LOVE the apple cider vinegar and I love that it's made in small batches. The apple cider vinegar is delish and I use it daily. Highly recommend!
I am truly a fan of whole foods without chemicals or preservatives, and I'm also a lover of salsa/spicy foods. I make my own "12 pepper Mayo" based upon a "chili lime mayo" recipe I found but I thought rather flat, so I began to add my own touches and record quantities/ingredients so I can replicate it. After 8 batches, I added your "Hot" apple cider vinegar. Now my family/friends say I should attempt to sell this commercially, it definitely has personality. I have no desire to attempt that, but I will certainly be ordering more vinegar!
My go to vinegar for salads
I’m really glad to have found American Vinegar Works. I am so impressed with your dedication and staying true to your ideals. I’m from the south and vinegar is always on the table. This vinegar has impressed me and everyone else in my family. I initially purchased a 8.5 oz bottle of the hot cider vinegar and will definitely be purchasing more. I’m really looking forward to the malt vinegar. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy this vinegar.
a wonderful assortment
I'm so pleased with this product
Exactly what I was expecting. Works great and will replace my Bragg’s brand.
The vinegar arrived packed well, shipping in a few days! It is great! I made a delicious Greek salad dressing with it! Best ever! Made Sweet and Sour pineapple too. Again best ever! Taste is amazing! Will prompt me to eat more greens. Tonight pickled cucumbers and onions !!! Yummy!
For years, I thought that over-the-counter common vinegar found in the grocery store was adequate. After all vinegar has only so many elements so isn’t one just as good as the other? Absolutely not! This vinegar has made such a difference to my recipes. The flavor brightens The dish anytime I use it. I won’t go back!
Compared to, say, the apple cider vinegar, what this elixir lacks in fruity richness it makes up for in a clean transparency still supported by a heady complexity of nuance. But it is the pure straightforward simplicity of flavor that grabs the tastebuds. In cooking, the danger of simplicity is that there's nowhere to hide. You either nail it or not. This vinegar nails it.
The Sherry vinegar has become our go to for salad dressings. An absolute game changer and wish they offered the liter size for this one.
Nice material and good size. Washed and dried very well.
