Honey Wine Vinegar
Our Honey Wine Vinegar is a delightful craft ferment made from small-batch New England mead. We source this high-quality honey wine from local craft producers to ensure an authentic base. After a slow-fermentation process, we age the vinegar to develop a sophisticated and rounded profile. We then blend the aged vinegar with raw honey for a perfectly balanced finish. The result is a unique acid with tart and almost candy-like flavor notes. This vinegar is an ideal choice for vibrant fruit vinaigrettes or refreshing summer drinks. You can also use a splash to brighten roasted vegetables or delicate seafood dishes. Every bottle is produced at our New England works using traditional methods from the early 1800s. We hand-bottle this vinegar raw to preserve its complex and sweet-tart character. Experience the intersection of mead-making and traditional vinegar craftsmanship in every bottle.
Honey Wine FAQs
What is honey wine?
Honey wine, also known as mead, serves as a unique and exquisite base ingredient that we cherish for its natural sweetness and depth. We begin with honey wine, an ancient alcoholic beverage made by fermenting honey with water, sometimes enhanced with fruits or spices. This rich and flavorful liquid undergoes a secondary fermentation process under our careful supervision, where beneficial bacteria convert the remaining alcohol into acetic acid, creating our distinct honey wine vinegar. This method allows us to preserve the intricate flavors and aromatic qualities of the original honey wine, resulting in a vinegar that is not only versatile in culinary applications but also offers a nuanced taste profile that reflects the artistry and tradition of its origins.
What is the difference between honey wine and other wines?
Honey wine, or mead, differs from other wines primarily in its base ingredient and production process. While traditional wines are made from fermented grapes or other fruits, honey wine is crafted by fermenting honey with water. This gives mead a distinctive sweetness and complexity that you won’t find in grape-based wines. Additionally, mead can be flavored with various fruits, spices, or herbs during fermentation, adding unique nuances to its flavor profile. In contrast, other wines are typically flavored by the specific variety of grape or fruit used and the aging process. Overall, honey wine stands out for its rich, honeyed taste and versatility, which contrast with the diverse flavors and characteristics of traditional wines.
What makes honey wine vinegar so good?
In crafting our artisan honey wine vinegar, we start with honey wine, a rich and naturally sweet mead made by fermenting honey with water. This base ingredient provides a unique foundation that sets our vinegar apart. We carefully oversee a secondary fermentation process, where acetic acid bacteria transform the remaining alcohol in the honey wine into acetic acid. This conversion imparts a distinctive tangy flavor while preserving the subtle sweetness and complexity of the original honey wine. By managing this process meticulously, we ensure that our honey wine vinegar not only retains the nuanced flavors of its origin but also delivers a balanced and sophisticated taste that enhances a wide range of culinary creations.

from 1631 reviewsI was not a fan of red wine vinegar until I had this and now I can't be without it! It really is the best!
I've been using mostly the Chardonnay wine vinegar and the olive oil just straight on my summer salads -- so light and bright and tasty! All I need, really. The olive oil was particularly surprising because so flavorful, and I've already used it up. Thinking next to see if you have balsamic, and another bottle of the oil...
I have been satisfied with each vinegar order I have received from you.
First, you have the amazing artisan flavor of the acv then the maple is a marvelous addition. Great for vinaigrettes, used it in my Boston baked beans, nice where you need that lift of acidity and brightness.
Fantastic flavor, try it and you wont go back to store junk.
The red wine vinegar is amazing with their olive oil!!! Love it!!!
I think I have 10-12 “flavors” of your vinegars. I love and use them all. My grandson enjoys experimenting with the flavors and has become a vinegar lover. My dad taught me the virtues of vinegar in cooking and oh how I wish I could share these wonderful flavors with him.
The variety of these wonderful vinegars is impressive. They have such wonderful depth and add so much flavor to any recipe. They are now the only vinegars I use. The company and service are equally stellar.
Every flavor of vinegar that I have purchased has been AMAZING!! Am running out of pantry space for all the varieties that I now have. Hopefully the hibiscus flavor will return
Excellent vinegars!
Fresh, smooth, complimentary and perfect. I will never use another apple cider vinegar!
Apple cider vinegar can be harsh. NEVER from American Vinegar Works!
This was an experiment in culinary school. After I decanted the first batch of vinegar, I put my mother in a plastic bag and took it back to my apartment. Each proceeding batch from that same mother kept getting better and better. After I moved, My girlfriend at the time thought this was a disgusting mess - and chucked out my mother in the dumpster. It wasn't until I found American Vinegar Works that I can have the same superior quality with less of a gross mess! Thank you American Vinegar Works! Bar none, this is the best red wine vinegar anywhere.
Smooth, clean, delicious, compliments all my Asian, Asian Fusion, and non-Asian dishes harmoniasly (a true team player)
I cannot rave about American Vinegar Works enough. I will Never go back to mass-produced, grocery store crap again.
